If your talking about the number plate, tail section. I think most of use that have done some kind of modification was do to breakage or wanting a different seat. I scooped a number plate during sidehill in some deep heavy powder and broke a number plate off. rather than buying a new whole tail section I just cut the other side to match. I havnt had any issues with removing them. In fact I think I prefer them gone, as they dont scoop the snow in a sidehill or whippin chittys.

Some guys have taken the whole section off. mostly to put a MX bike seat or something like that. I think I prefer the stock seat tho, but thats just me. I cant think of any adverse effects tho.

Now that's a funny question, I don't think most of those are intentional. Even with those side panels theres still a chance of it happening, I high sided once doing a figure eight and before she threw me it tried to eat my foot and instead of throwing me over it threw me straight up following the direction of the hawk and landing on it. That one hurt more than hugging a tree

If you take the whole back cowling off it does make the stance feel a little narrower that's for sure.

There's quite a bit of snow acumulation inside the number plates too so if you cut take them off you shave down that possible snow accumulation.

Feel free-er, I think a guy's boots don't get "tied up" as much when they're off.

I think A Hawk without wings doesn't look as good though !

These are the 4 things I noticed, that's just my .02$ !

Well if it wasn"t for TLK's sticker kit i would cut mine off I just like it to much to cut it. But I was on Cj's Hawk for Artic man this year do to his Knee being Jacked and I like the side pannels OFF you can carve better IMO and i think it looks good. I cut the ones off on the 503 that Twistedchicken is building and mine will be gone after i damage the sticker kit. LOL.

Does the guy that took those side panels off are having problem with snow accumulation near the air filter and back of engine.

I am looking at that idea to carry a 10 liter on the back of my 503.

Steve Samps is probably the one that try it the most ....What do you think i heard sometime you had to put a kind of tarp when there is alot of snow?
