Default Best Tra primary belt?

Which is the suggested primary belt for 05-600 with Tra at altitude? The belt that the hawk came with was for a 600 Turbo Artic cat.

With the TRA drive clutch and the stock button clutch, I run the stock ultimax 138-4628u3. It works well, I have even stuck with that belt after the 800 (mod motor with head/porting/mpem recurve) swap and it holds up just fine. This is for sea level to 7500.

This is kinda like the ski situation, there are alot of different answers to this question, and they all work for the person giving the advise.

So to be clear, I run the stock 05-600ho drive belt, 138-4628U3.

I have a TRA drive clutch, Stock driven clutch, and a 800ho motor.

I used the same belt with a TRA drive clutch, stock driven, and 600ho motor.

The only time I have had premature belt failure is during tuning of the clutch system and having a poor combination.

That is the belt that I used on the 800 hawk with tra 3 and stock secondary. it is a little longer and just a tad wider that the 4628 that they had from the factory. I now use the 144-4740U4 on all our stuff. A little longer yet and I think just a tad wider also. They seem to work good if you can keep the clutches cool is the big thing.

144-4740U3 is what I use. 47-15/32" long, deflection is perfect if you ride the belt with just the cord sticking out of the secondary, that's when it's new and 1-13/32" wide.

Have a look at this guys be carefule you might loose an hour of your precious time looking for the perfect belt here ! Hahahahaa !
http://www.cptbelts.com/pdf/snow/sno...dimensions.pdf

Max belts will handle more heat than U3, I can't say if it's a better belt for our application since we don't shred nearly as much belt as, let's say, the XP guys... who deal with very high underhood temperature and motor mount twisting... That's hard on a belt ! Unproper clutching will be hard on the belt too.

Les, what's the physical difference between U3 and U4, on their website it says U3 them MAX series, there is no U4 ! Is the U4 an update from the U3 ?

And never forget we should always run our belt the same way around !

I take it the wider belt is to take up some of the slop on the primary, since there is no way to shim the primary unless you machine it ? Correct ? That means the length is taken up by the width ? Otherwise why a longer belt ? Inquiring Minds want to know, Please?

Yes Bob i'm sure your belt is what I sent Warren. The last U3 belts I ordered superceded to the U4. Yes My theory on the wider is to take up some play in the primary clutch, helps get a smoother engagement. The added length helps with final gearing, don't want belt to bottom out the secondary and still have room to climb up the primary or it will pull the belt apart.
