to central city... pickle gulch was the area we were going to park at, kinda screwey.... campground was "closed" and gates were locked, except for people with a "reservation" ... not sure how that's legal, but whatever... nice thing about having a plate on the dirtmobile is we can park in town and ride anywhere...

It's not legal. If it is BLM or USFS land an individual CANNOT reserve a camping spot. Campgrounds on public lands, with the exception of Natl. Parks are a first come, first serve basis. If the gates were locked and people were in there then they are at risk for getting a ticket for occupying a closed area. That is the same ticket that sledders and OHVrs get for riding in an out of bounds or closed area. I went through this a couple years ago while we were camping and a fellow had several sites "reserved" with lawn chairs and such. He was saving the spots for his friends that had not yet arrived. Sound familiar? LOL. Anyways, the intern USFS officer caught him and made him pack up and get out or receive a ticket. The guy left as the fine was close to $1000.
