The final piece to Steele’s project came from an ECU reflash. Polaris’ race department handled the reflash for US$50, which allowed the turbo to spin up to 18.5-pounds of boost at wide-open-throttle for an estimated 165-170 continuous wide-open-throttle. I wonder what Polaris has in the works? Last edited by Bushman; 11-17-2009 at 08:37 AM. |

I have that motor on my watercraft and it runs very good , we also 2 years back installed a 174 track on a fst , ran strong but was a heavy sled , plus could not keep it cool enough , but maybe polaris will install it in the raw chassis , ......................

Guy not far from me did the FST long track conversion.
Wicked fun sled. I talked to a polaris guru a while back. the biggest problem polaris is having on their FST motors is cooling. They can't get it to cool properly ina mountain chassis. The turbo spools WAY up in the RPM range. It allows you to have usable power right off idle, but it generates a chingo of heat. They were also a little worried about the weight, but since it would be comprible to an apex in weight and the fact the apex sells pretty good, they dropped that concern. with the self compensation turbo (variable waste gate control) it can maintain constant HP from sea level to 10k feet. The last word I got was they were looking at changing up the whole design and seeing if they could get the temp problem under control and into a mountain chassis. I think with ski-doo putting a 4 stroke mountain sled out polaris isn't going to be far behind. They had their turbo purpose built for sled motors, they will make it work even if they have to put it on a different motor. My next sled will be a 4 stroke. Hopefully polaris can get their FST RMK online in the next 2 years.

Keep thinking of buying an FST, would make a wicked sled. Wish they could make it a tad lighter and it would probably sell itself.

Stock FST with either the 2007 or 2008 ECU flash: 148bhp +- 2bhp Stock FST with Racecraft intercooler & ELA muffler: 156bhp +- 2bhp FST with Stage 2 ECU reflash: 174bhp +- 2bhp FST with Stage 2 reflash & racecraft intercooler: 179bhp +- 2 bhp FST with stage 2 reflash & racecraft intercooler & ELA exhaust: 183bhp +- 1bhp FST with stage 3 reflash & Racecraft intercooler & ELA exhaust: 191bhp +- 1bhp Stage 4 reflash gave minus 4bhp as it appears the small kkk turbocharger was operating outside its efficiency range. These are outsanding results. Everything was conducted on 91 octane pump gas and not a single combustion knock event was recorded during the whole day. All was safe and the engine was rock solid. As I say, results will be posted on the Dynotech Research website in a few days. Those interested will have the opportunity to analyze the numbers in great detail. |

Sounds like fun.

with a stage 2 or stage 3 reflash does that leave enough compensation for the constant HP at all elevations or does it simply make more HP at lower elevations and hold that HP with standard elevation losses??
That is to say, is the turbo working so hard to create 191hp that there is nothing left as you climb in elevation?
