Default Crank snapped on my 2009 XP? WTF??

What would cause this on a 2009 with 950 miles?

That sucks PJ, you still covered under warranty? Casting flaw maybe? kinda looks like some rust where the crack started.

even if your out of warranty a good dealer should be able to get that covered for at least the parts, that is a goodwill situation if i have ever seen one.

Factory warranty expires April 19th, then my extended warranty comes in effect till April 2012.

Dealer has a new motor on the way. There was clutch damage and the ring gear scarred the side of the case pretty bad.

This may not be the case with your clutch, but my buddy was switching out his pins etc in his 2010 doo for low elevation, and the factory had two different pin weights in his primary...

Was pondering this breakdown yesterday or the day before and then I remembered the Clutch bushing incident at the biginning of the season. The one where the guy in Utah got it fixed up for ya.

Could be part of the problem or the symptom of the underlying crank problem that finally showed itself.

Polaris's 800 VES's were famous for snapped cranks and one of the best prevention measures was to maticulously care for the primary and have it balanced perfectly by someone that really knows their stuff.

it serves to reason that your clutch issue earlier this season and this crank problem could be related or a cause/effect deal one way or the other, however at this point that part is a chicken or the egg question unless something can be found definitively wrong with the crank that caused the failure.

I thought about it but I didn't ride the sled this season till the clutches were repaired. The damage could have been done last season but I only rode 429 miles on the sled before putting it away.

Confusing. In all my years I have never had a crank bust or twist.
