Default ZX Project

This is a project that I've been working on for awhile. The donor sled is a 2002 MXZx 440. The original plan was to build a 600 that will out perform my buddies on their stock 800s. I'm a flat lander, so this project wasn't intended to be the worlds best mountain sled, just something that will get the job done when I get to play in some nice UP powder and the one week a year I make it to the mountains

02 440x bulkhead
Designed my own tunnel, laser cut/CNC bent, powdercoated
136" skid (8" rear idlers) w/ a drop an roll to move the skid farther back
Designed/machined my own chain plate (not case). Once the right gearing is determined I will be running an open 0-ring chain off of a crotch rocket
2004 700, ported
RKTech Head
LRM Twin pipes (his heavy gauge SnowCross pipes)
Aaen silencers
P-85 Primary
Cat Roller Secondary
10T drivers
Lexan hood (painted)
Boss Seat

That's a pic of the donor sled...for some reason I can't add a new reply with more pictures b/c I've used up my file limit with that one pic...? That seems kind of rediculous to me.

I've got a Picasa account which should be pretty similar to photobucket, so I'm uploading photos to that right now...if it doesn't then I guess I will have to set up a photobucket account.

Lets try this picture thing again...

Donor sled. The kid I bought it from painted the yellow plastic white and black. He also put the Mountain Machines 136" extensions w/ 8" big wheel kit on it.

I stripped it down to the bulkhead (sway bar is gone too)

Then cut the shock towers off and moved the mounts down to make room for the LRM twins

Designed a new tunnel in SolidWorks and had it lasered out and bent up

Next came the chain plate, which will eventually be an O-ring chain off a wrecked GSXR we have in the shop

Then I dropped and rolled the chaincase for a little better angle on the track, as well as to move the skid farther back. It should act a little more like a 144 in the pow, and still like a 136 on the trails

Made a hog trough for the chaincase

Cut the trailing arm mount to make room for the chain and gears, then tied it into the steering hoop and bulkhead (the welds look worse than they really are)

Boss seat

The chassis (tunnel/bulkhead, trailing arms, tunnel supports) are out getting powder coated right now. I've got the locations for the rear skid mounts figured out, so once it's back from p/c I can start putting it together. Still gotta get the motorwork done, and won't really be able to build the pipes for it until I have the belly pan back on it so I know how to fit em in there.

Thanks! You won't find me buying too many VanAmburg or Holtz parts and just bolting them on...I like to design and machine out my own stuff. I'm not cutting on anybody so I hope this isn't offensive; but anybody can order parts out of a catalog and bolt together a "mod" sled.
