Default Avy in Revy Today?!

Anyone have any info? Supposedly a big avy on Boulder Mt in Revy today with lots of sledders involved, got my info from a buddy in the lower 48. Isn't the BIS going on in Revy this weekend? I hope my buddy was wrong, but this sounded pretty bad, lots of SAR helos etc..

Update. A quick google search came up with this: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-col...avalanche.html

I was really hoping I was misinformed, my buddy is pilot flying in that area and he was hearing some chatter on the radio regarding SAR efforts

Last report I saw was up to 4 dead, multiple critical injuries and many missing. It was during the Shootout. About 200 people at the bottom of the hill watching. This is an active rescue scene.

Prayers go out to the families and the rescuers.

Such a bum deal, but why would you hold a high marking event like BIS when the local avalanche center issued an "extreme" avalanche warning.

That is terrible news! Once again though, you have 10 avy's since Friday. The CAC issues a severe avy warning and they still go back in there to hold the event. What does it take? Really want that hell does it take for people to realize this is not a joke?

Had the exact same thought myself.

Prayers and thoughts go out to the victims and their families.

I hate when this happens, prayers to the families of those involved. Hopefully the snow stabilizes, we're suppose to be there in 2 weeks for Yamafest

not gonna make excuses for this, BUT the avy center is not the most accurate around there. it's waaaaaaaaay to broad to be really accurate. and they tend to call it extreme a lot really. As we all know, it can be horrible in one area, but another area can be okay. the areas that the CAC includes in one bulletin is usually quite a large area with many different riding areas and conditions. again, not an excuse, but just a little insite maybe
