Default Track Mod

There is several of us Poo guys that are trying this track mod out for the season. It consits of this, trimming the little 1/4 nubs that fold over and don't hook up on anything that is setup. Then Putting #6 1" screws in the lugs. I did 2 per lug, few guys are doing 3. Here are a few pics. Accoriding to the guy ( F-Bomb) that suggested it to us it stiffens this these tracks up enough so they will hook up better when things get setup, Give a little more clearance in the tunnel which in his experience helped to gain track speed. All this with no draw backs to the pow performance.

My redneck Sled lift, J hook into the rafters with tie downs to hold the sled up

And some blood, didn't realize a fresh razor knife had cut me that deep. Got duct tape? haha

Maybe 45 min to trim, screwing took almost 2hrs, predrilled everything thought which added some time. Elbow Grease= Free, Box of Scres=$8. I got lots of time right now so I figured its cheaper than a new track and may as well try it out.

i just trimmed mine the other night and id say it took bout 45 minutes also. i left the wider nub in the center of the outside lugs but im not sure if i want to keep them or not. I didnt put screws in it yet as im undecided if i want to do that or not. im thinking of trying it out first with just the trimming. whats everyones thoughts on that?

Felt a lot stiffer after trimming. Reason I screwed too was at 2500 miles on it, and it was starting to get soft. Was thinking of swapping to a camo but figured I would try this and see if I like it first.

id have to agree with the stiffer part. mine only has 400 miles on it though so it still is fairly stiff yet. is there anything special i should look at for screws. what would work best for #6 1 inch one. would stainless be a good option or just a standard square drive would be adequate

I went with square drive ones, they are coated deck screws, if I did it again I would look for #6 1" finish screws they have small heads and will sink right bellow the ends of the lugs.

Most hardware stores carry the finish screws BUBBA is talking about. One note, on the '08 and newer tracks, there are three defined areas per lug to install the screws. On the 07 and prior, there are not so just make sure to get em centered in the lug...You must have changed out tracks huh?

Default Track Mod

I have the a series 5 track that I believe has the same problem as the 5.1. Has 1000 miles on it and seems like it has lost all stiffness. When I let it sit on the ground of my garage all the lugs bend backwards quite a bit (in the wrong direction). I was thinking of doing at least half this mod by cutting down the lugs and waiting on the screws. Seems like the lugs will be much stiffer with just the cut-down alone. I hope everyone will post there experiences with this mod when they actually get to try it out (IF IT EVER SNOWS!!). Will be very interesting to see the results. If it works everyone just saved a ton of money and hassel
