That first post was to provide as much information as possible to get people involved. I will be posting a sample letter/comment that people can 'borrow' and edit after I fully digest the plan(to the best of my ability) and look for positive and negative aspects.

If anyone on here sees positive/problem sections of this draft plan, please speak up, your opinion is valued.

It may be beneficial to all of us to read the following Alaska Statute and possibly refer to it:

AS 38.05.295. Parks and Recreation Areas.

The commissioner shall establish a policy and adopt regulations by which parks and recreation areas, including public scenic overlooks and cultural sites, shall be developed and managed in a manner that will best serve the interests of the people of the state. The commissioner may classify public land as parks, scenic overlooks, cultural sites, and recreation areas as long as the general intent of this chapter is maintained.

After attending the Mat-Su meeting tonight, i have already seen/heard a few specific problem areas that I am going to address. I will be posting more in the near future.

Thanks - Travis

My son was up at Hatchers snowboarding at mile 16 and brought back a flyer that indicated they are going to put in a snowmachine trail right through mile 16. Now that doesn't make any sense at all.. Why would someone want to put a trail right through the middle of a snowboarding trail that has a PILE of kids on it every weekend? There should be enough room there were we can get past them without going right through the middle of their snowboarding area. That is a recipe for disaster!!!

no thats not the plan at all. there is still going to be NO motorized use in the area of mile 16.

sorry if i get any info wrong on my 2 cents im throwing out because im not intelecually gifted at this law making bull$hit so please correct if im wrong

they want to open the front side and valley of goverment peak which a bunch of cross country and nordic skiers use already and thats why (if you where at the last meeting) the peeps opposed to the plan where making the comments about safty and all that "putting a road through a playground" mumbo.

so either you/your son misread or the opposed people are playing a scare tactic or something. if this goes through there will be [B]less[B] snowmachings around the mile 16 snowboarding/sledding area because the portion of land in between the mile 16 run and the motherload lodge will be closed to motorized use.

i am also going to pull some strings and try to get the building that the meeting will be held at reserved the night before and maybe get the bcr/the other site together to try and clarify some stuff, and possibly get all there maps and such so we "motor heads" can descuss or comment or bitch for all i care about said propposed plan. will let you guys know as info comes in.

Very interesting, I am going to have to see if he kept that flyer. It was green and a female gave it to him. She was out there last weekend walking all over 16 mile handing out the fliers telling everyone how the state was putting a trail in right through 16. Obviously this did make anyone there very happy at all.

Well, I can't find it but it said something to the effect that we were putting a trail right through 16 mile and everyone there needed to come to the next meeting to fight the trail being put in.

I agree that we need a trail from the entrance of the park up to the top were we can get to the back side and I seriously doubted we would try to put one in there.

I am sure she made up the story of putting a trail through 16 mile just to get people to show up.

I bet she voted for Obama.. He used these same tactic's in his campaign
