Default Avy fatality

Looks like a 60 year old skier is Co's 3rd victim so far this year. The Avy danger is much higher now so be careful. Down South got 4 feet and a lot of wind loading, so the avy's will be devastating.

I hate hearing story's like that! It sounds to me even though the group (8 people) was experienced; if it took 2 days to recover his body with dogs and probes! He probably didn't have a beacon or any other avy gear? Probably just a RECCO reflector on his pants.

It does, but man you have to use your head out there.

The article claims he was very experienced. I find that hard to believe when you take into account he was in avy terrain and probably not even wearing a beacon. Somehow the group he was in couldn't find him?????

The avy report for the area was high danger, it had obviously snowed a bunch. I know accidents happen but most of these I read about reveal some really dumb choices.

One of my neighbors set off a monster up at Jones a few days ago. The instability has really done up again recently. I had hoped with how bad it was early season that we'd get lucky & have a safer year.

Down to considerable from high just yesterday in the San Juans. Predicted to go back up with another foot of snow tomorrow

We are just going to stay off the big stuff until it gets a little safer. The good news is we are putting down some serious snowpack. Spring and early summer should provide some good riding this year. I wasn't so sure we were going to get there until recently.
