Okay I may take some flak for this post but who knows. Been ridin POO all my life and currently ride an 03 Escape which has been the best sled I think POO ever made.
But the sled is gettin on in age and it's time to upgrade. With all the problems on the Dragons and the flimsy Summits not to my liking that leaves me with Cat. Dont even think Yamaha till they shed another 20% weight. My question is how good are the M8's now? Are they holding up? Have there been any engine problems and are they simple to tweak and work on? Does Cat step up to the plate if you have issues? Not sure what to buy? |

I did the same thing this year but had to learn about new polaris sleds the hard way. Time will tell for me I guess hopefully the 09 m will do me right

The new M8's have merely shed the weight off the counter balances. Aparently they have been doing this on the race circuit for years and proven the technology.
If I had the $ I'd buy one. |

Sold a 04 800 151 edge for a 09 m8 153
It was worth it, that old polaris sucked NOT EVEN IN THE SAME CLASS! It's like going from a 1980 chevy van to a corvette.

night and day difference form what you are riding, once you try one you'll never want to ride the polaris again, gauranteed!!!! the 07-09 M8's engines are bulletproof...

I agree with sandman on the motor, the 700 and 800's have been extremely reliable. I've heard of topends going 7000+ miles. The sled is easy to work on and fairly simple once you know what you're looking at. The newer M8's seem to not need much tweeking but there is a pile of weight you can lose off the frontend by doing just an intake. I don't think you would be disappointed.

I came off an 800 poo and was astounded at the difference, I was expecting some change, but when I let my buddy borrow the M and climbed back on the poo I couldn't hardly stand it. It's an awesome sled for sure

I don't think you'll go wrong with either brand, the only issues I see with the dragon is the lack of adjustability in the shocks, and the chance of motor issues in the D8. I think the D chassis handles better than the M, and has a stronger steering post, but weaker running boards & holds more snow on the boards.
The D8 is underpowered compared to the M8 cc for cc, but if the D7 is a possibility, it's a rippin 7! DEFINITELY ride both of them before you decide, they're both great sleds. |

I had the chance to spend a weekend on a D8 as well as on an M8...the M8 is the best sled I've ever ridden! I would put a taller seat on it an that's about it. Unlike the Doo's and the Poo's, Cat's 800 is solid...no crank issues.
