Default No Spark....

I've been tossing and turning for the last few days trying to figure out why a 900 would not have spark, the guys had to replace the motor and after doing so took it out for a ride and within 10 minutes it died. They've been through all the connectors, tested the stator (per the service manual), unplugged un necessary accessories, and still cannot get spark. I assume they would still see the spark at the spark plugs the same way as any engine when they pulled the rope wouldn't they?

Gotta be something stupid........

does it always run for 10 minutes or so and then shut down...or will it not run at all anymore?

Chances are the stator probably went tits as they've been known to be problematic on the 9's. It could be coincidental, could be the wiring got pinched, who knows. I've been told that ohm testing has been inconclusive at times when it comes to stators on these motors.

Just for kicks, disconnect your handlebar wiring (bypassing kill switch) and disconnect your ignition switch (pull th connector of the switch), to verify that these 2 items aren't causing an issue. Make sure the ground wire (brown wires) are connected as a loss of ground will fry the ECM.

Prior to the new motor, it ran fine until a piston exploded, after the new motor it ran for 10 minutes or so and shut down and hasn't run since. According the tech who did the testing, the rectifier was bad so they replaced it with a known working one (no change).

All that stuff was disconnected at one time to rule them out.
