Default Ranger tailgate

I just noticed that where the stud in the tailgate that attaches to the cable on my Ranger tailgate is cracked. The plastic is cracked. It is a pretty worthless design, but I am wondering if anyone else has had this happen & how did you fix it? I have a couple ideas in my head, but I just wanted some input from you guys. Thanks

Never had that happen before, but.
Can you drill a tiny hole at the end of the crack, to stop the spread of the crack, and use a couple large fender washers inside and out to help spread the load out a bit? Also give it a shot of Gorilla glue or something on each side of the crack then add the washers?
