Default Coolant fitting

2007 Phazer

Kid took it out for first ride this yr and made it all of an hr before being on the hook. First thought is she smacked the front cooler on a rock and dumped all the coolant. After tearing into this monstrosity it is a fitting that blew out of the block.
Thinking maybe the t-stat (just to the right of the shinny steel fitting in the 1st pic), stuck shut and allowed the engine to build pressure and blew the fitting out. dunno tho. Gonna replace it anyhow since it is tore down this far.

Anyhow..... how is this steel fitting held into the aluminum block? No set screws or anything. If it's press fit I am not sure how the hell to get in there to seat it again. If glued/epoxied in, then any idea which epoxy to use?

Local dealer could only get me a whole new head at the prime price of $750.00.... ya no.
Talked to them a bit more and parts man at Napa and decided I would try this stuff. Figure it should hold up to the temp and minimal pressure. Going to add a bead of JB Weld around the outside of the fitting to insure a good hold. Waiting on new T-stat to show up before I test anything. Will update this as we get some miles on it to see how it holds.

Think if you cleaned it real good and used the retainer, it would hold fine. We have some 3M epoxy that is used to hold metal to metal forever. Tested it to 500# of force. I will see what the number is and if I can get a tube of the expired stuff from the trash.......
