Good job Rob. If everyone would do the same, it would make one hell of a difference. I've donated $50 each of the last 2 years to SAWS. I'm not an American citizen, but I do 90% of my riding there and feel I owe it to protect the areas I've ridden and the ones I haven't yet.

Size does matter. The more members SAWS has, the bigger the voice we have. Everyone should join, it's free, it makes a difference, and if politics don't change big real soon a lot of people are going to be driving to Canada to ride.
I'm still looking for Grants, or private funding for SAWS. It's not a SAWS thing, just something I think could change the lands fight in a big way. I look at groups like winterwildlands and see they have 13 full time employees, and SAWS doesn't have one. I need to find someone rich, to leave all their money to SAWS. I mean, heck, the PEW charitable trust, is nothing but a bunch of snowmobile haters, and they have 7 billion dollars in the bank. What could SAWS do with that kinda mulla? Oh well, I think BRC said they've never seen a hundred thousand dollar donation. But, groups like the Sierra Club have gotten as high as 100 million dollar donations. Definitely Samson and Goliath. |

Yha, I hear you Beels. I've been watching some of the traffic flowing, about closures in Canada. Sleds are a lifestyle up there, so you guys may fight back a little more on average.
And, until you shed the French speaking quadant of your country, it will be liberal. The land grab in the US, is both big and small. They have billions (yes billions of dollars) to close land. They can't hire enough lawyers. We've fought everything from local skiers, to winterwildlands, to snowlands, to friends of the clearwater, to yellowstone coalition. They distain our meer existance. They don't even know why, it's a group hate thing. Right now, there's the Yellowstone to Yukon Proposal. Roadless Northern Rockies Environment Protection Act (whatever they called it, NREPA I think) all of these are around 50 million acres closures. Any one of them could happen. And, there's obviously some type of organized push to close around 600,000 acres in every state. Already happened in Idaho and Washington and Nevada, it's in Colorado, and Oregon, and Montana right now. And, there's a huge 9 million acre push in Utah, that will close some great remote sledding. There will come a time when there will need to be a huge push for money. It's the only thing that will save us. |
