I just bought an Assault. In the next few weeks I want to add some vents in but Im trying to find out 1) Which would be most beneficial for keeping things cool (location of vent, brand, combination of vents) 2) How much it will cost 3) and which look the best.
So was had worked for you on your polaris and post some pictures if you have them. TIA |

I would go with the Carls Cycle front vents, $60 for the set and they are a cinch to install. I like the Fire and Ice vents for the rear stirrup area.
I would NOT recoomend the SLP ones, installed 4 sets and they are a PITA for install. |

Just recently installed 2cool shock-tower vents. They were easy to install, look good and also seem very durable. I was originally going to use Carls or the Holz shock-tower vents but was concerned about water getting on my clutch and belt since they have no snow pre-filter.

Those are made by holz.
I used those and the shock tower vents from Holz. I went with them because they are metal, you don't have to worry about branches going thru the shock tower vents or putting a boot thru the footwell vents. http://www.holzracingproducts.com/sh...vent-kit-p-576 http://www.holzracingproducts.com/sh...vent-kit-p-578 I used those in conjuntion with 2coolVents side vents IQ side vents http://www.talan-enterprises.com/air...is/Polaris.htm The combination of those vents gives you a good flow of air over your clutches and exhaust to keep underhood temps down. If you don't do some venting you will experience belt failure due to heat on long full throttle pulls such as climbing or riding in deep snow or sticky springtime snow. I also used the 2coolVents IQ dash vent to increase cool airflow into the airbox. If you would like pics of the installed components on my 08 700 drop me a pm and I will be glad to send them. On the IQ side vents I used a 1 3/4" hole saw, a 2" hole saw and a 2 1/2" hole saw. It worked great and looks clean. |

Okay well I think I will for sure get the shock tower vents, stirup vents, and also the vents that go under the windsheild.
Im curious though what everyones thoughts on the side vents are. Iv been told by a couple of people that if i have the above mentioned vents I should have plenty of air flow to keep the clutches and belt cool? If so I would rather go without the side vents cause I prefer the look of the stock side panels over having a vent there. But if it were necessary i would put a vent there because performance is way more important to me than the looks.. WHat do you think? |

I actually put the side vents on AFTER I had been running the footwell and shocktower vents for a full season. I got into a serious springtime snow (3' of not so fluffy). It was full throttle fun for about 4 hours. Wifes 07 dragon got so hot under the hood it took a 115 belt and turned it into strings and flapping rubber. Spent 30 minutes unwrapping the strings from around the clutches before we put the backup belt on. Got done with that and went to start my sled and the pull handle came off in my hand along with about 6" of rope. It got hot enough under the hood that the little metal ring that the pull rope slides thru actually burned the rope and it broke when I went to pull it over. Not having the side vents pretty much ruined what was a FANTASTIC day of riding. With the 2coolVents side vents you can control how much cooling you want by how many holes and what size you drill. |
