Default M1000 Gearing

Anyone gone down as low as 55/65? I run 57/63 along with some funky alignment changes in my mod 1000 and I have never blown a belt. The back up 1000 is a different story. I am considering a case with 55/65 in it because it is pretty cheap but I am concerned that it is too low. Thoughts anyone?

run the 55/65 and love it. better out of the hole and with the 44/40 helix your clutches will love you. along with the slp full pipe setup...

Hey 76,,,
I'm, thinking about changing the gearing this year also.. Thinkin this would be a good set up for the snowies where I ride ..
but not sure if the 57/63 would be better.. fuel that is (Any Thoughts)

I geared Down my Skidoo like this and loved it,,made a whole new machine out of it,,,. for the snowie riding

Do you every take extra fuel ??

I take extra fuel already, and was just thinking them darn polaris guys that I ride with !! complaining !! your out of fuel already..So I take two containers of fuel with me.. That seems just enough to ride all day with them,, and all of us come home empty or there abouts.

Thanks.

thats the one thing I dislike about about my M1000 too is the damn fuel when we was riding at the forum in west this season every one in my group was riding pros and myself and dogmeat was on cats and even though his is a turbo M8 we still would run out of fuel the same time and the pros only use a half a tank.

With the 1k you have 20% more motor and you need to feed the horses so no way around the fuel needs. But most of the 1ks are pig fat at the bottom and mid so this is lost fuel for power. so what i did to get mine to run was the full slp set up, attitude box, and the stock air intake, did the bdx and not consistent at all. the kicker to this was the fuel pressure regulator set down to 44 psi (could go a bit lower still), tried all the above before the pressure reg and it was OK just too much fuel down low still. once the reg was in place it made a big difference on low end response and this got the motor on the pipe faster. i have run the 57/63, 56/64, and now 55/65 and like the 55/65 the best BUT i ride 6-10k in the trees of ID in deep pow. the sled gets up on the pipe and the gears get it out of the hole fast, this will not help with the trenching part so your buddys will have to learn to pick there own lines if they don't like it. it will get up on the snow faster and not dig in too bad just learn to roll into it a bit. I use 715/77 primary weights cut with the notch along with the slp blue/pink in the pri and stock cat OR with 2 spacers in the second with 44/40. set the attitude to 0 green 0 yellow and 4-5 on the red depending your base map and red to come in at 6K. this gives you a bit of a fat spot just above 6k as the valves don't open on the 1k until 6250 so the attitude will only let you pick 500 rpm sections and i would deal with it fat V lean over the selection. just learn to stay out of 3/4 on hard pack days or work past it fast. in the deep not an issue.
most of our days are 70 mile or less and most of the time 50 or less due to snow. i pack 2.5 gal half the time but only used it 1nce last year, on deep days the 800 use just a little less fuel to get to the same spots. on average i use about 1-1.5 gal more per ride then the rest of the 800 in the group and a lot of this is dependent rider and style.
