Well this season has started off like sh!t!!!! Just bought an 07 m1000 mod with 1250 miles on it and had a PTO side rod bearing go out all ready. It has MPM porting and and RKT head, oil del. boondocker box, etc. Was riding on the road and it was acting up, sometimes when I would go over 2/3 thottle it would fall on its face. I'd get out of the thottle and it would run fine. A/F at 5500 rpm was at 14:1 and EGKs at 1050, when I'd give it more thottle It would fall flat and the AF would be 10.5:1 and EKGs 850 I think it might be a bad plug contection with the box, was just starting to eliminate different possiblitys when it started to rattle. Its at VOLK getting a new crank now. Is this the crank failer common with the 07 m1000?? Do you think the acting up did it???? Maybe the oil del.?? When I get it back what Box numbers would you recemend??? THANKS for your help

What oil & ratio you running? Is the case drilled for the oil delete, if so which side is the hole?
The bottom end can go without oil several times longer than the pistons, if it was a fuel/oil problem you would have seized the top end way before a rod brg. would fail. Years ago I run klotz at 50:1 because its a good oil and they claim 50:1 to be ok. After I lost several rod brgs I went back to mixing 32:1-40:1 and the problem went completely away. On days its just a bunch of freinds I mix 32:1, when its race day I mix 40:1, oil displaces fuel so mixing 40:1 on race days helped jet down a bit without changing jets and cleaned up the burn a little. The top end could probably survive on close to 100:1 ratio but day in day out the crank needs oil, it doesn't need expensive stuff either, it just needs plenty of it. I have heard of a few m1000s with lower rod brg failure but I think its an oil problem and not a defect issue.. You have a lot of stuff to talk about, don't hesitate to give me a call.... . .

RIP n IT I ran the same setup as you last year on my 08 m1000 (MPM porting and RKT head) and lost the PTO rod bearing also at 1157 miles. Had good oil and lots of it, no signs of deto. Never went down on a piston failure.
I set my primary clutch off to get it balance after I lost the rod bearing. The place I sent it to said it was out of balance by a lot. I ended up buying a new primary clutch after the rebuild. Never had any more problems after that but I also went back to stock cylinders and head also. I chalked the rod bearing failure up to an out of balance primary clutch, as I could find nothing else wrong.

There is no doubt that an unbalanced clutch is hard on cranks, thanks for pointing that out. I need to remember that just because I balance my clutches, pistons and weights as normal preventive maintenance most don't and I often reply as if it was my sled. Thanks Sidehill

I think cat had a problem with the 07 and early 08 crank pto rode bearings, they changed production of the crank in mid 08.
I too had a pto rode fail at 1800 on a nightfire 08 made in early 08 but got it from freeagent as a used sled and she sent me a whole new motor free to me! man she is the $hit!

well we're up and running again!!!! Rebuilt crank, new pistons and I put the oil injection back on, it cost me $1600. Took it out today over by Wycolo and its not happy after 5800 RPMs. Boondocker box numbers I think are way to high. 6500; 01 03 11, 7000; 02 04 16, 7500 02 04 22, 7800; 04 08 24. Took all the numbers down to 6500; 00 02 04, 7000; 01 02 06, 7500; 02 03 08, 7800; 02 04 08. (I think writing this from memory) It runs 100 times better. Egt are good at 950-1050, and A/F is at 14.2 at 5500 13.7 at 6500 and 11.9 at 7500+. This sound about right??????

Unrelated to your problem, there is some craftiness involved on oil deletes on some 1000's....seems liket there is no way for oil to get to the water pump and the shaft siezes and takes out the inner bearings and crank. Since you have it apart, fix this too. I won't have any thing to do on your pto side tho...just sayin...
