Default Lets see how much "knowledge" is really here vs SW

OK, 04 800 summit rev, 162 x 2 1/4" maverick. Stock motor w/brand new vf3's. New top end w/600 miles on it. Pistons look good. 390 mains, 20 pilots. clip 2nd down from top w/shim under. Carbs cleaned last week (did not blow out jets, stupid) tips on how to blow out jets would be appreciated to.

Put a Big John clutch kit on this fall. New spring tower cap in primary also.

Sled pulls decent from bottom to 3/4. Once on the main jet it rips up till it hits 7800-8000 then the tach starts to bounce around between 7700-8000. Feels like a small child is hanging on to bumper (stole that line )

Can't get higher revs. Tried raising clickers from 3 to 5. no difference... still bouncing between 7700-8000 rpm's.
Removed pin weight, set clickers back to 3 and tried agian. no difference.... dropped clicker (just to see) to 1..no difference

Took it 2 wks ago to Turbo Al, he took a quick look at it. Al installed his clutch spring combo (primary and secondary) as well as installed his pin weight recommendation. He said I had the right helix in in so no need to change it.

Took it out Wednesday in 20" fresh snow. SAME THING????? Clickers make no difference.
Don't think its DPM related as we just rode Sicamous for 3 days in serious frost bite temps without problems.

My thoughts: must rave related? Just cleaned raves 2 wks ago ..

BCR crew help me, wtf going on here?

I am not a doo guy,..but check the basics first...check the fuel pump for volume, change the fuel filter, check tank vent , check compression and timing(just to make sure you dont have a surprise)..check the exhaust system for leaking gasket, cracks or holes in the pipe....check the can for a loose baffle that turned sideways limiting exhaust...check both jackshaft and driveshaft for bad bearings, check that hifax is in good shape...check for corrosion in wire harness conectors...check that oil pump isnt way rich..., ..hope that might help....mike

It's going to take a little while to build the knowledge base here but it will happen. Good luck VE and post what you find and how you fix your issues.

I dicked with my 05 quite a bit, it was doing the same thing. Do a search over on DooTalk for pipe surge.
What fixed mine (I think) was loading it up and/or a spring tower cap.
Joey also has a good write up in his site.
I had mine down to the case almost trying to find something wrong.

there is no reason to lean out the needle...this tells me the DPM isnt working...whicj means your running rich at WOT...stock needle position/390 mains/20 pj does/will yield peek performance from jetting...clicker 1-6 not changing rpm is ??...does it pull better at 3/4 throttle?? if so your back to a jetting issue...BJ

BCR crew help me, wtf going on here?

BJ, you wrote "there is no reason to lean out the needle...this tells me the DPM isnt working...whicj means your running rich at WOT...stock needle position/390 mains/20 pj does/will yield peek performance from jetting...clicker 1-6 not changing rpm is ??...does it pull better at 3/4 throttle?? if so your back to a jetting issue...BJ"

Sadly I don't understand what you mean. First, I did not lean out the needle. It is in the same position it's always been in. Is the described needle position the stock position?

Second, yes it does pull better at 3/4 throttle, steady tach with no bouncing.

Please re word you reply for the slow (me) I know there is lots of experience in your reply and I want to understand what you mean.

thanks
