Hey Guys, I had fun with this XLT build so I want to do another budget build this summer, was thinking of modding the crap out of a 2003 XCR 800 with the following:
Cutout running boards U cooler gripper skis mesh hood lightweight tank and seat 159 track timbersled rear suspension fox front floats chromoly trailing arms my famous tunnel extension risers lightweight bars handwarmers one light clutched and geared lower. drop and roll reverse So my question is - I want the power of the XCR 800 engine and still want the low end performance, is the 800xcr engine a good engine for a mod sled or is it too heavy? Should I just buy an edge and build it up?? I'm not stuck on a brand, but no cats please I'll mix and match chassis/engines/whatever to make it work right. I do need something reliable with good factory HP, don't want to mod the HP much hence the reliable part.I can get a 2003 type sled for about 2K this summer, I'll either strip the parts off my xlt or source them out cheap somewhere. Thanks! |

Lots of power to be found in a 800 trip. The twins have short pull power, the tripple has legs. With the propper clutching and gearing the tripple will walk away from the twins (IMO). They are heavier with extra parts, but if you're making the sled lighter anyway. If you have one, do it up.

that's what I am thinking, i want something in the 170hp range out of the box, i can clutch and gear it low, top end I dont care about i just want it to walk in powder. i havent bought one yet to build, either I will buy a 2003 and build it or just swap the engine in to my build xlt - will see.

i know you said no cats but a thundercat 1000 tripple might tickle your fancy for stock hp imo put that into a edge chassis

I like where you are headed.
The XCR 800 would be cool. The Thunder Cat would stretch your arms. I've ridden one that was lightened, piped, Bearcat clutches, CMX belt drive, 159 finger track, it would accelerate hard all the way to the top of the hill. If it hadn't of kicked my butt pushing through the corners on the trail I would have wanted one. The owner was a big boy and tossed it around like it was a toy.

I'm pretty sure it was over 200 in mod form. It was not super radical. No porting and such.
