I used to ride it a bunch when I lived in Boise. Now it's just as easy to get to Cascade/Brundage and I like it too. May have to try Pilots again this year just for old time's sake!!

Okay, I did misunderstand. I used to ride Poker when my inlaws had a cabin in Irwin. My bud and I had a tradition of going there on Thanksgiving morning. There was seldom enough snow to do anything but get the pickup stuck going in. Isn't there a campground called Bad Bear or something like that around there too?

I was thinking Pilots Peak. I'm an idiot, but at least I'm consistant!

ya the campground is called Bear Creek. Last year they groomed the road from the dam past bear creek and up and over jensen creek pass all the way to the McCoy creek road. about half way up jensen creek the poker peak trail head starts

poker peak is good riding but the visibility is always lousy. i don't think i have ever rode there on a clear day. i prefer to hang a left instead of a right and ride big/little elk mountain.

I ride Poker a good bit, I live in Irwin so it is easy for me to pick nice sunny days and good snow. It is not as high as everything else in the neighborhood but a great place to bring people to work on thier skills. Easy to get in and out, cell coverage, and not very avalanche prone.

It is a good place to go have fun for a day, the last two years there has been really good snow, like the rest of the area. Poker is a boondockin' area, no big climbs or chutes but a fun place to ride.

WMD, jealous of you, that is a gorgeous area to live. Spent a couple of summers up there working at lemhi and used to hunt Russel Creek and Tag Alder.
