Title says it all, I've seen people mention that even with no snow flap that they don't have overheating issues, I can't go 5 miles with the snow flap or it overheats. Only way it doesn't is if I'm breaking my own trail.
Anyone have any idea what I can look at to find what is causing it? The coolant level is fine, no leaks. Could it be that I just need more venting? |

Possible, They snowflap actually helps with cooling. Do you run scratchers? They help. I also run water wetter. It is a coolant additive that helps keep the temps down. Does it do it everytime?

Do you have an air bubble in your coolant system. Run the nose of the sled up on a ramp so that it is higher than the rear cooler. Open the coolant cap and run the sled just below clutch engagment until you see a nice little stream coming out of the coolant return line. You can lift up on the ski loops so the sled rocks a little bit during the process.

I have the snow flap on and have the overheating problem, no ice scratchers yet (waiting for them to show up), however I have a few buddies with Assaults and Summits that haven't ever overheated, I have only had 1 ride where it hasn't (out of 5 rides so far).
I guess I'll try to see if I have an air bubble, I seen a guy out on an 09 HCR today and stopped and talked to him, he said he hasn't seen his temp light come on yet either, so it seems odd that mine comes on 4 or 5 times a ride. The only time I haven't seen the light was the day there was no trails packed, I was the first one out around after a hefty snowfall, other then that, unless I'm in knee deep fresh snow it overheats. |

Thanks for the replies, I'm going to try the air bubble first (as it seems the easiest) if that doesn't work I'll try the thermostat.

The Doo's and Poo's have ported tracks. It doesn't sound like much but that would make a difference.

May be a faulty temp sensor triggering the light. How hot are the coolers? Does the sled go into failsafe or still run fine? Just a thought.

Also make sure the glycol is not straight. It needs to be cut with water to work right. Straight antifreeze can run hot.

Air bubbles are pretty common on new sleds if the dealer doesn't set them up right.
