I know for sure on the edge and gen 2 sleds that the bolt holding the bottom gear on in your chain case will back out and can either grind through your chain case cover or break off then you have to easy out the bolt
so just a thing to check every year as i have lost 1 and another backed out with loctite on it to just fixed another sled with same problem and had 2 others just in the shop also happend on our 04 800 so keep that in mind when your checking your sled over |

I have had it happen a few times myself. Last year in Island Park,ID it got lodged down in bottom and put a hole in my chain case cover. That bolt and the driver shaft speedometer bearing are my 2 biggest things to keep and eye on.

I had one come of on my mod a couple years ago and ruin the chaincase cover about 40 miles in. Had to run an open chaincase all the way back to the truck. Talk about one hot chain...
Also have had them break off from over tightening.. a little blue loctite and very little force when tightening is all it takes... |

I had forgot about that dang bolt!
When I bought my 03 Escape in spring 06 first ride out it was ratcheting like mad. Did some research on the net and pulled the speedo drive, yup bearing is trashed and driveshaft is too now, and working on making a nice big hole in the bulkhead. Pull the chaincase cover off to find a sheared off bolt head on the lower gear and the gear was doing its best to slide off the driveshaft. I ended up calling Pierre's Polaris in Kenmore, WA and they sold me a new driveshaft that was drilled/tapped to a larger bolt size and a harder (grade 8 I think?) bolt, along with a new bearing for the chaincase. I should check it to make sure all is well... thanks for reminding me

I bought a bag of 25 bolts and replace them every year (using blue lock-tite) when I pull maintainence. Probably overkill, but good peace of mind!

More maintenance = less repair time and $.
Also, for you IQ chassis owners, take your ski bolts out and grease the bushings as they have no zerks anymore so they rust up and freeze.. Just helpfull hints.. |

I had the bolt fall out on my Escape during the Holidays last year. The end result was having it jamb up which caused the chain to break. Blew the whole bottom out on the chain case. Made for a long tow back. After installing all new parts, I drilled a tiny hole in the bolt head and the gear, then tied them together with .032 lockwire. That bolt will NEVER back out on me again! The first time I'm in the Dragons case, it will get the same treatment.
