I had the t stat in my 900 based twin big bore go bad, and priced them around and HoLY $hit list is 54.--. So my question is how many of you guys run without them?
It is a Suzuki item but come on 54 buck I have never paid more than about 20 for a stat of any kind any ideas on a place to get one cheep

I would take it into an auto parts store and try to match the size up and then see if they have one that is low enough temp. I think they are only around 110* F. I ponied up and bought one for a old 700 a couple years ago and that was $40 something! You could try it without one, but I'm sure it will work better with one.

If you're running stock coolers its better to chit can the t-stat any way, just make sure you warm it up good before you ride or if you sit around along time.
I've been taking them out for years on the mods and it seems to bring the temps down to a better operating range. If you really want to run one, I have several laying around I'd sell cheap, just PM me.. .

On sleds with mods and stock coolers the t-stat is open all the time once its up to operating temp, it is also a restriction in the system. On sleds with extra coolers running the t-stat, I always drill 2 or 3 1/8 holes around the outside of the t-stat for a little extra flow and safety in case it fails/doesn't open.
I have never ever had a mod sled run to cold without the t-stat, I've seen the temps around 140-150 with the t-stat in, pull it out and see 120-130 without it on the same sled. I believe there is a little HP to be had on a mod sled by running without it.. GOOD LUCK

Might have to try pulling mine out. Can't seem to get much below 140. I was thinking of adding a bigger rear cooler. Was thinking of using the rear cooler out of a CF1000, looks like it is about twice the size of my current rear cooler.
