Default Building trailing arms, what to use?

I'm gonna try and fab up some trailing arms for my 97 an I'm wondering what materials would be best to use? Anyone ever built their own? Any suggestions would be appreciated

Default Aluminum

I was in Carl's Cycle one winter day back in '98.........There was a trick sleeper mod '98 RMK that was rockin' a set of what looked like Aluminum Trailing arms that were identical in dimension to the stockers......Pretty cool since the sled looked box stock.....I like the sleeper look......

a tree branch and some rope?

Weight, cost, and machineability...

steel will be cheap, but not light or workable.

Aluminum's probably the best material to use...

Titanium if you've got $$$ and equipment to work it.

Carbon fibre might be kinda cool.

I would use Chrome moly tubing. It is a little pricey but, worth it IMO. I might build a set for my sled this winter & if I do that is what I will use.

chromoly is the way to go for cost and strangth, aluminum is very soft once is is welded and will not hold up unless it is heat treated which is expensive and heat treated aluminum doesn't bend it snaps, long story short= chromoly

I might do an aluminum set and see how they hold up, I work in a shop that's got a tig machine and all the tools to work aluminum so that's a non issue, chromemoly is also a very viable option, what wall thickness would yield light weight but also good strength?

Build them so that they screw in, so you can replace them easily. And, I'd figure out some way to use a hime style joint for the tree end.

Yes, they will be built so that I can replace either the arm or the piece the the spindle goes through (the name escapes me) if I get a set built and they turn out good I may become a vendor and start building them for the skidoo zx chassis and the edge chassis as well. We shall see how it goes
