Default Sled is smoking

Hi,
I have an 08 M8, purchased in the summer with 500miles on it. It seems to be smoking alot.
When I stop and then go to start it up again it gives a little back fire. It seems worse now. I've put on about 700k so so far this year. what are some possible reasons for this?

It runs great when I'm out though.

Your oil pump armiture is sticking. Hold a flashlight down on it and flip your throttle a couple of times and I'll bet you it's not returning all the way. Some guys are putting another wrap on the spring to fix this and others are working a zip tie into the picture. I personally would put the wrap on the spring but it's a pain to get to. Betcha Hobb-Z has pics if you ask him real nice.

I've heard of this happening on many ocasion, and that was the first thing that came to mind.

What would account for the backfire, M8's are not notorious for a backfire.

I wish I had a picture to share but I couldn't find one and I take the oil injection off of our sleds so I really can't even get you one...

These guys are right as to what is happening with the pump, they are notorious for not returning. An extra spring wrap is the best fix but like everyone already said it is kind of a pain.

For the back fire problem try letting it idle for 20-30 seconds before turning it off, sometimes it helps to clear the hot pipe.

Sorry for not having a pic, I started taking the oil injection off yrs ago to avoid all the oil problems and shave some weight..

I know someone has pics of this, I've seen them before. If I run across them I'll copy and paste them here..

The well known sticking oil pumps started in 09 when they were redesigned to pump running backwards (Elecctronic Egine Reverse)

I had a leaking injector in my 09-M8 caused it to backfire untill it was fixed.

A little Fuel Injector Cleaner never hurts !

Take a look at you pump, may not be adjusted correct, more likely the case with a 08

Good points

This is something I should of added but wasn't thinking, A/C has a bad habit of over oiling.

Just about every new sled we've ever owned wasn't adjusted right, I would start by checking that first..

We also use Techron fuel injector cleaner at the beginning of every season and then again about every 4th tank through out the season. The first tank I mix strong after that about 1/2 as much as you're supposed too.
