Default weekly dilemna as a Dad

I just love to go ride and there really isn't anything else that I can do that lets me escape my worries about work, family and other committments quite like squeezing the throttle on my sled and working my way up a drainage, through trees and blasting out will.

BUT, it is getting harder and harder to take the whole day and do that for me. With my job I am busy all week and I feel a bit selfish taking my one day off and using it for me. Kids have games, programs, plays and recitals. My wife has spent all week keeping house, running the kids around and taking care of other commitments that she has as well.

I've taken some of them with me (that are interested in going), I've stayed home, and I've just "manned up" and left them home to do my thing. (I don't like that last one very much). So what do you do? I see people saying that they are riding all the time. How do you do it? Maybe I just need to sneak off during the week with a buddy or something and that will free up my regular day off....

Suggestions?

Riding for us right now is going as a family. Once a year ATM and I try to go out by ourselves but riding for us right now is a family affair. We actually really enjoy going out with the kids my mom comes with us too. We have 7 or 8 of us in our group depending on who comes. The kids range in age from 3 to 17 years and then my Mom. I won't say her age but today is her birthday!! Happy Birthday Phazer Moon!

Thanks. We usually get a couple of family rides in a year too. Getting everyone's schedule cleared to do it is a little like herding cats though!!

We ride as a family too. But I always get stuck with the 3 yr old and she goes to sleep. My wifes way of keeping me under control. I'm the same way, I just have to go with my buddy's or I have a melt down.

let your wife know just HOW MUCH it means to you...then i am certain she has an activity that is equal..then a comprimise...every two weeks you get your FULL DAY..and the off week she gets her FULL DAY...and in between every two weeks you just squeeze in what ya can...and she as well...it is important for BOTH of you...and the FAMILY is priority the other 12 days..but still you both squeeze abit in for yourselfs when ya can...i know i have all the time in the world now to sled as the kids are gone...but life plays funny tricks...i sure wish the kids were kids again...i sure have the memories of doing stuff with them..

Hi Anchorman,
I feel very thankful, for most of the year we can ride right from our house. During the week when the kids finish their school work I"ll take them for a rip with the skimmer to our toboggan hill. Hubby and I go for rides when he comes home from work too. Sundays we usually ride with all the kids, but Saturdays are just for my hubby and I. I sometimes will go out with my step daughter for a ride too, as she lives just around the corner.
Right now because we're trailering a half hour from home it's usually my hubby and I that go alone. We'll take any of the kids or all of the kids if they want to, but we both believe that it's good for our marriage to head out to the hills by ourselves and get our alone time. When we come home, we have family night. We don't go out for supper, or to movies, so sledding is our entertainment. Our Christmas gifts to each other is the ability to go out and ride, (gas, gear, etc).

Another cool thing we do is take the kids up the mountain behind our house, with their snowboards and skis. I'm the snow shuttle for them Lol. I'll find a pic.

You need both. Being a good parent requires you to man up sometimes and tell the boys that your staying home to watch Spongebob with your kids, and other times to take a break from them and blow off some steam ridin like you want. Whatever you do, remember your kids will be grown and gone before you know what happened. This is a subject that is close to my heart. I am so thankful for the many memories I have of my daughter both sledding and golfing. No one knows what tomorrow will bring.

Thanks Blu, we are coping and I am so thankful for all of the thoughts and prayers. I hope no one thinks I was trying to hijack a thread or get sympathy. I just dont want anyone to experience a feeling of regret by not spending time wih there children and telling all the people in your life that you love them. Dont leave anything unsaid
