Default Backfire

OK. Any input would be nice. I have an 05 rev and it will backfire after I shut it down. About 4 to 5 seconds after the motor has stopped it will backfire so loudly that if I was in a bad neighborhood I would get return fire. It will only do this when the motor is at running temp and only at the mid elevations. I have a SLP can and have done nothing else to the motor. Any thoughts?

Good to know it is a common thing. Loud as he!! too. I have had guys dive into the snow like they are getting shot at. Funny to cause a couple of them work for the sheriffs dept.

Your bottom end is too rich, turn in the air screws 1/8 turn and it should stop the backfiring. I've seen it a thousand times.

my '08 used to do it once in a while too....especially after a good hard pull. I let it idle for a while before shutting it down in that circumstance, the backfire is not good for the reeds and could damage them. it is the heat contained in the insulated stock pipe that ignites the unburned fuel after you shut it down.

Common and normal, just some unburned fuel in the pipe.....let it idle for 10-15 seconds before shutting down. I sort of like it, keeps people on their toes!
