Default Hot Dog Roast Anyone????

well it was our annual REVY trip
as uaual it was socked in, snowing and this year the snow was DEEP!

wake up for day 2 and whats this!!???? blue skies???? SAWEEEEETTTTTTT!
it was turning out to be en epic day of shreddin pow, until........an unexpected "hot dog" roast occured

here is a pic exactly one hour before the incident

so we decide to head down to the river bed and play down in the meadows there
there was a pretty steep right side hill to manouver, had to stop and help a buddy down
stopped, helped him then proceeded to head down
about 10 mins later, I go to use my brakes and nothing....*%@????

look down and there is 8" of flames coming out of the recoil handle hole in the side panel
there was a few 4 letter words that followed
after bailing snow on it for about 15-20 mins, it finally quit burning

this is the result........

needless to say, it is now at SGI for an estimate on the damage
I have no idea what they will do w it
my gut (and and hoping) is that they will write it off

anyone else experience this or seen it and what was the outcome?????

first question the dude at the dealer said, was "did u leave the brake on?"
NO...i did not, for SURE...it was on while helping my buddy down the hill, but I 100% for sure took it off before heading down myself

arrgghhh.......I literally put 60 miles on this sled <_<

maybe I will be upgrading to an XP sooner than I thought?????

I don't know revs at all, what actually caught fire? To me it looks save-able, sure looks like a nice sled to get totalled out.

is there any concerns with the tunnel being damaged?
how about the jackshaft, bearing, seal, chaincase, etc..???

there was a tonne of heat in there
I know aluminum has no memory, so is it comprimised and possibly weaker now???

I added up (roughly) the parts needed to get er back up and running

Without the tunnel - $2400CDN + labour (35% without labour)
With the tunnel - $3800CDN + labour (56% without labour)
--tunnel is approx. 24hrs labour @ $95/hr = an additional $2280 - this would put damages at $6080, which is 89% damages

SGI considers 75% damage a write off

If we assume the sled is worth $6800CDN (which is what the "blue book" says mine would be worth w only 1000 miles on it)

so i get it depends what they consider "damaged"
I am just scared of them missing something and getting stuck in the backcountry somewhere, cause they F'd up

You set the brake to help the guy out and then took it off.
Being as this is a brand new sled, what are the chances the breaks didn't release??
That would be the logical assumption.
That sure looks like a break on problem. It may have just not released.
or not released all the way.
I have seen that with a polaris once.

As for any other problems, I have zero experience with doo and can't help ya.

I don't think it's gonna be as bad as you are suspecting. The damage looks pretty minimal, you may have to replace a few small parts but I'll bet by and large it will be fine.
If they total it are you gonna buy it back and fix it?
