blue locktight and just a firm tightening...i know they would have specs but common sense is all you need like when you change spark plugs or a tire or how much twisting that key will take..and check after first ride and if ok your good to go with the locktight...definately more then 14 ibs though if they are 3/8 bolts

well they are 3/8 but threading into aluminum so 14 might not be too weak. thats why i want a number so i put on blue lock tight and DON'T HAVE TO RECHECKED THE F#$%@^ THINGS AGAINSKI. common sense is what goober uses down at the station. TORQUE SPECS are what you use to build a race car or plane OR SLED that goes super fast. plus this is a repair from 12,500 miles on the suspension. how do you think i ran it that far? common sense or torque specs? not diggin on ya either M8MAGIC. your answer is the best by far but not a number alas. keep em coming fellas. someones gotta know.

Put your best man grip on it and stop right before the bolt snaps.

They're calling it a cap screw, which I think is wierd. You'd think it's a bolt.
Tighten to 3.2 kg-m (23 ft-lb). |

do you want her filled up and oil checked...lol..not offense taken...but 40 years pullin wrenches i have a feel...and hey all those race cars built on numbers are winning the races because of drivers with the FEEL..

First and for most you are a smart A$$.
For me to give you the right torque spec. I would need a lot more information staring with. 1. major diameter of threaded bolt 2. pitch diameter of threaded bolt 3. minor diameter of threaded bolt 4. major diameter of threaded hole 5. pitch diameter of threaded hole 6. minor diameter of threaded hole 7. material of the bolt (not just steel what kind of steel heat treated or not ) 8. material the bolt would be thread in to. (once again not just aluminum what kind of aluminum) Once you have all that information you could find the tensile strength of the bolt and the thread. Once the tensile strength of the thread and bolt are found then a person could calculate the proper torque. Now you tell me is it really worth all that work for a snowmobile to go for a ride. Me I would snug it with some lock tight and ride it. The fact of checking it after the first couple rides is minor for the work it would take to get the proper torque specification.

I see someone above says 23 ft lbs for the bolt, the shop manual I have says, 30 ft lbs for the rail support and 34 ft lbs for the bolt. Not sure which one is right. sorry. Last edited by BigHoe; 12-03-2009 at 02:42 PM. |
