Default ZL Starter help...

OK, never had a starter on a sled but fiance's pops is asking me questions about this sled he has...

He bought a 2-up for riding at their cabin back in MN and now just uses it to hunt in the winter. It runs fine after a tune up I did on it last year, but the starter on the thing does not work. I got a new battery for it, but when you turn it over it just makes a click sound on the exhaust side... Silinoid (sp.) out? Actual starter is on the clutch ad no noise coming from there...

Any ideas? Easy fix??

He lives about an hour from me, was hoping to just take a part up there and fix it when I get up there next, don't want to make a ton of trips over it... thanks

Correction, might be a ZR or something else, I believe it is a 600, that body style tho.

Never seen it run really, just worked on it for about an hour 3 years ago.

It is a 1997 I believe, two-up tank haha, 600. Does it matter on the starter if its a EFI or carb? How so?

Pretty sure its the silinoid on the exhaust side, NOTHING is getting to the starter to even trigger it to spin. Just makes a single click sound.

Not sure on miles, but somewhere around 400 or so.

I would check the solenoid first try to cross it with a screwdriver see if it takes off. If it don't take off still it may be the starter seized up. There is a fuse in the system you could check but I would think if that was bad it probably wouldn't even click. I would say your on the right track with the solenoid idea I would start there.

Poor ground connection somewhere in the starter circuits or bad battery cable?
Maybe enuf current to "click" something, but not enuf to run the starter.
