Default Powder Ski Thread

So I'm down in the lab feeding GoldenHawk and decided to try my hand at making a powder ski.

How about Les, Bud and anybody else put up some pictures of what each person had made for a powder ski.

I started with this pair of parabolic sled skis I had laying around. Notice the gap in the center from the shape of the skis.

I cut on a table saw and then belt sanded to form straight edges to sister them together.

Hmm, how do I mount this thing to a Hawk's twin axis mounting plate? Those bolts and blocks are the snowtrackers already installed.

So here's what I made up.

Between the ridges on the skis and the snowtrackers it looking like there's going to be a lot of grip to this thing.

I couldn't fit something large enough in the cavity to mount up to the stock hardware, so I made my own twin axis mounting plates scaled down to fit. Then made the covers to make things look nice.

It's 10" at the tip and tail, 9" at the center where it mounts. Almost done!! Looking forward to finding out if it works well or if I just wasted a bunch of time.

Thumbs up

I have to say "niiice craftsmanship" on that project ThunderHawk !

Could actually be a pretty good all-around ski setup because of the snowtrackers, they'll will probably make it work really good in the trail i'm pretty sure.

I'll be posting mine next week probably.

im soooooo glad im an east coast hawker! the snow is and never will be deep enough to see the need to morph TWO skis together and try to call it one....come on guys! you are feeding fuel to the fire with all the regular sledders like big truck and the like... 2 skis glued together is not a snowhawk anymore! its just like a regular sled from 1969 with a 12" ski stance.
