Hi again guys,
couldn't look at this unbent piece of aluminum for more than 2 hours... so during lunch time I went to the local steel shop and had it bent... Then couldn't look at it for more than one morning beside my Hawk so during lunch time today, I just put it there to see how she looks ! A guy could definately go longer as I think it's not quite as long as I thought it would !!! ![]() I am gonna design new "stand brackets" on each side (where the Hawk stand hook on) I thought I could have the back of the tank pivoting on an axis and if you want to go **** with your jets, you just release the front of the tank, pivot it around that back pivot that would be integrated in this bracket and away you go. Faster and easier than tearing half the hawk apart ! ![]() With the Rotopaxes on : ![]() Still to be bought : Cheetah Factory Racing Snowboard brackets but that's not gonna happen before 1 to 2 months still. Now I can start figuring out what shape of tank I want to make... |

Wow, sure ain't NOTHING happening on this poor forum ! Must be because something called summer fever. I get that too sometimes when I can surf or go down a DH trail... you know something that's 50% the fun of Hawking, just enough to stop me from thinking about it ! You know what they say... once you kill a cow, you gotta make a burger... Hmm no sorry what I'm saying is : better start being ready for next season ! Ya'all end up in the middle of november wrenchin on your machines, already late for early november riding ! Looks like this season is gonna be the only one where I'll be ready for early october riding, maybe mid september !!!
Hey last night did some progress on the project and decided to bend the grab bar off of a piece of 1" by 1" by .083" Aluminum tubing using my ever trusted tube bender I designed and fab'ed when I was still at school. I am quite surprised I had it all peferct the first time ! Here's some pics : ![]() Fits friggin perfect. Just some trimming to do on it and i'm waiting on the hook then I can and send it to welding. I LOVE the rivetless construction in the back. Damn, do these sled riveted tipped up tunnels ever look like a bunch of stuff all repaired and patched together compared to this... : ![]() One more question is how far out and how far in do I want it : ![]() There would be room for another standard container 2 Gal in between if I stick the grab bar far enough but I ain't going there ! I'll have enough of the Rotopaxes. Just so you can see it can be done... on a 14.5" wide tunnel or you put the grab bar on the outside of a standard width tunnel, that would work too : ![]() Let it snow over 6500' ! |

Fits like a glove on the back of that tunnel.
You could make the grab bar adjustable. Or having the extra 2 gal fuel tank would make more of a guard for the snow flipping up on your helmet if you wanted a longer tunnel. But I too think the grab bar will be best set in just one position: that one being the one for grabbing it. Leave the extra fuel to the rotopax or a designated tank mounted on the back of the tunnel in front of the grab bar. |

Project looks awesome. I would put the bar in the location that feels best for moving it. Gives good leverage and clearance to move it around. If you mount it farther back you also have a point to add more tunnel if the snow roost still hits your back. You will probably come up with something awesome.

Thanks for all the good comments guys.
Just got it back from my welder, I think he did a pretty good jab. ![]() Lots of hook-up places ! Just so if I decide to pull 2 guys on GT snoracers in the back, they'll have their own hooking spots !!! Damn this project is almost completed, graphics missing of course but I might be able to go ride this week-end anyways ! |
