Default New Dog House for FatDog

Well a while back I posed the question on whether to build a new pad or stay at our current place. After weighing out a ton of different options we decided to build a new place.

With that being said, I figured I would start a thread on the process and if anyone has any advice, ideas or just general thoughts on new home constructions, Iím all ears. Iíve never done this before and to be honest with you half of me is excited and the other half is nervous as $hit!

We came up with our own floor plan which is a ranch style with a walk out basement. The main floor will be finished with the basement left unfinished for now. Siding will be seamless steel; Anderson windows and Trex decking consist of some of the exterior features.

The garage, my part of the house will be completely finished, trimmed, heated, floor drain, hot / cold running water, cable tv, basically all the good stuff to keep my ADHD azz, occupied. Ha ha!

Anyways, hereís a few pics from whatís going on so far.

on the unfinished basement make sure you have all the wiring, plumbing, central vac, cable ect stubbed down to finish it out later. I did the same thing and finish it out over a few years later, also it is nice to have a door installed between the basement and the upper level. I have a 25x30 pool and TV room with a pellet stove in it. this will heat the basement and most of the upper level.
don't go cheap on exterior framing make sure you do 2x6 and as much insulation as you can get your power bills will thank you in the long run. and now it the time to think about the future hot tub location and have wire need put in to place. I am a electrical contractor and see this in the back all the time with the hot tub.
Make ALL your changes before construction at this time they are free after they cost a lot of money. pencil lines are easy to move walls are not.
good luck and have fun doing it.

Stripper pole if it's going to be ready in time for Josh's bachelor party.

GOOD ADVICE FROM MOCO ON STUBBING THINGS IN FOR FUTURE USE. ONE THING THAT I WOULD RECOMMEND IS TO CHECK IN AND SEE IF YOU STRUCTURAL CODE WILL ALLOW FOR 2 FT ON CENTER IF YOU DO 2X6 ON THE EXTERIOR WALLS. IF IT DOES I WOULD DO IT SINCE IT CUTS DOWN ON THE NUMBER OF THERMAL BRIDGES YOU HAVE TO THE OUTSIDE AND WILL HELP WITH THE HEATING AND COOLING.

x2 on the floor heat and x2 on the door for the basement. The new house that my sister bought in Bismarck doesn't have a door leading to the unfinished basement and it looks like azz.
