Question Pindale, Wy. info

Any Rebels in the Pinedale, Wy. area? Company is relocating me to the area. Just trying to figure out the true cost of living before I accept the offer. Any info would help.

Land prices are high. Not a bad small town. There are much worse places in the state you could get stuck. What kind of work are you doing?

There is good snowmobiling in that area. Wyoming doesn't have income tax. Sales tax in wyoming is 4 percent plus an optional 1 percent local municipality. Not sure is Pinedale opted for the 1% but my guess is yes. Minerals in energy carry the load for property tax so it isn't bad either. My cabin in Fremont Co. property tax is 600/yr based on 80,000 value...not good but better than Utah! Pinedale, is a gateway to the upper green in the wind river range. It will be awesome for outdoor rec.

When I was last in Pinedale for any length of time, the not-quite-rich enough people from Jackson were starting to invade combined with a bunch of oilfield guys working the Jonah/Mesa it made for an intersting dynamic.

Prices have come down since 04/05ish when the Jonah/Mesa were kicking hard, but they are still up there.

When I lived in Rock Springs 10 years ago the property around Pinedale was affordable. Shortly after it went through the roof and hasn't really came down. I wish I would have purchased some land up there while it was still relatively cheap.

This past winter their has been a problem with air quality. It is worse than the LA area.

Thanks for the info. I accepted the position, so I should be up there in July sometime. I currently live in Firestone, Co. but originally from Casper, Wy. I see a few forclosures in the area so that should help drive the housing market down. I get a relocation package to help ease the pain of moving. I hear the school system is good in Pinedale and the aquatic center is nice. I work for BP, I am excited to be done with shift work, no more typing at 3 in the morning.

Best snowmobiling in the entire state right there in the Wyoming range IMO ... blows the snowies away. The snowies might as well be iowa compared to the Wyoming range

But, as for Pinedale ...

It's basically a wanna-be Jackson these days. An AWWWWWWWWWFFFFFFFFFUL lot of foreigners have moved in there in the last 10 years.

There's still a lot of oilfield stuff around there, but the hippies have gotten an awful lot of it shut down ..

I wouldn't mind living there if I owned a ranch really.

May need to find some weekday riding partners this winter. Keep the info coming, too much knowledge is better than not enough.
