Default Backcountry.com

Hey everyone, new guy here.

I have been reading these forums for a while and noticed the 'black list' if you will about retailers. I saw backcountry.com on the list, a store which I had previously liked. I decided to email them simply to share my frustration for their support of the WWA. To my surprise I got an email back, and it did not say what I expected it to.

Here it is,

Quote:
Thanks for your note, xxx.

Unfortunately, we’re just as frustrated by this news as you are. We do not support anti-access organizations, nor have we ever directly contributed to the Winter Wildlands Alliance. However, upon investigation after receiving your email, it seems that the Conservation Alliance, which we do support, did award this organization a grant in the last cycle. We did not choose to support this organization and have always restricted our Conservation Alliance donations to support other not-for-profit groups that encourage stewardship but promote access. We are following up with the Conservation Alliance to reiterate these mandatory restrictions, and to ask their help in ensuring that neither our name nor our logo will be used by Winter Wildlands or any other access-restricing group with which they are associated, falsely indicating our support.

Thank you for your help in identifying this issue.

Sincerely,

xxx
I realize I am new and you might assume I'm a greenie trying to trick you, but I assure you I am not. I'm a snowmobilier who enjoys boondocking, hillclimbing and everything else. Take what you will from the email, but I guess no one had bothered emailing them before, and I was pleased with the response I got. It seems we might have gotten a good shop back.

The only problem with them is most of the stuff they sell is produced by companies that also support the bunny humpers trying to lock us out

Right, but they do still have some stuff that makes them a worthwhile place to shop. I just don't know who to turn to for my winter gear after finding out about MSR, turtle fur, Patagonia, etc. (not that I didn't suspect that they were against us already)

I guess Klim is our only option?

I e-mailed them about a year ago and told them how disgusted I was with myself for associating with such an unscrupulous company who would betray the people who have supported them and made them what they are today...

I don't remember the exact reply, but it was a MAJOR brush-off. Looks like the economy is starting to pinch, to the effect that they have to rethink the importance of Snowmobilers; to their business.

Good I say. Now If we could get our Polititians to listen to us...

"back before BCRs' inception"

After having read much discussion on this subject I had decided to start this thread. I'm sure this is the one that you read a while back.

I was just trying to get people to quit bitching, and take action; If it bothered them so much.

Plus, it was very informative to me personally. I was surprised at the amount of info that became of it.

ya, this thread was active last year. to the best of my knowlege it is deleted.

I don't have the desire to research it.

I find it interesting though that, according to vicious-penuts' remarks, we have made a small difference. It shows what an impact we snowmobilers/back country riders could make if we (really) banded together.
