I ride a stock 04 HMX-151 with Simmons Gen 1 ski that I have slightly modified as follows: saddles modified to let me place the spindles all the way out to give me 37" tread. 4" runners on out side edge, 7" on inside, belt sanded outside tunnel edge within 1/4" flat from runner to tail, turned up the tail with heat gun to give a shovel (great for reverse).

I cut the outside track lugs back 1/2" to give me a 15" track with 16" floatation (same as the new Peak/CE), single port 1 1/2" down the middle. Stock two wheels and out side boogies deleted. Very little snow build up.

Suspension: front skis 1.5, front skid spring 3/4 tight, rear torsions 2.
I weight 190# plus 10# pack.

Stock pipe/can, RKT head, balanced D^J clutch, Doo Docs floating secondary.
19/45 gearing. No sway bar, Axess 3" higher seat, 4" riser.

This sled is a side hillling/boondocking winner. You don't need a $12,000 sled to have a fun day riding.
