Default 01 summit 800 rebuild short block time??

rebuilding the wifes 04 and sons 01 summits

got the 01 tore down tonight, heads off pistons off.
the mag side piston was pretty worn on the intake side of the piston and the exhaust rave valve was pretty goopy on that side
I did have a small delam starting in that boot as well, I cant see light through it but it has started

question is
once we got it tore down that far if you turn it over by hand it feels like there is still "compression" I know i need to split the case and have some crank bearing work done but at this point whats the best option

split and rebuild this lower end and crank

order a rebuilt crank

or short block it
4000 miles on this motor since last full rebuild

its the sons sled
he may ride it twice this year
what do you rebels think

the compression is the magnitio (sp) it uses magnets and a coil to produce power and this gives the resistance in sections you feel. 4k is getting up there but i have seen some of the early doo cranks go a long ways. if the sled gets limited time might just be worth the top end only...a full rebuild on this sled is worth more than the sled it's self.

I have over 7000 on the 01 MXZ-800 (original bottom, second top-end). I would agree about the Magnets in the recoil side, but I would also check the lower unit as long as you're there. Can you pull the fly-wheel off to see if the resistance (compression) goes away? If it does not, you may have a bearing going on the crank.

yep i can and will be pulling the flywheel
i did think about the magnets and stator but didnt think I would feel it that much
but pulling the starter and flywheel will be a quick check
thanks

I know a full rebuild puts this motor at more than the sled but ive come this far and the kid needs a sled
and its the first real money ive ever had to put in to it
been a great sled

Its a wash to me. If you could sell the sled and add the $$$ you would have put into the rebuild what could you buy to replace it ??? Haveing a reliable ride for your son...priceless, have him help you work on it even if all he does is wash parts I cheerish the times I got to ride with our kids. Towed out quite a few of the sleds we owned, never had a bad time. I say to rebuild and at 4000 miles its crank time for peace of mind.....Dino
