Question '05 Doo Gauge not advancing

Howdy!
I have an '05 REV 800 with the single Tach/speedo gauge and the speedo and odometer stopped advancing.
I really never look at the speedo because by the time I'm going real fast, fast enough to be interested in how fast I'm going then I'm also going too fast to look down at the speedo to see how fast I'm really going!

But what I really want working is the odometer so I can feel bad about being so dog tired at the end of a ride while only actually traveling 40 miles or so!

I pulled the driven clutch and the air box out of the way and tried tracing the wires and connections and I see no obvious breaks or chaffing.
There appears to be a wet oil (thought it was water 'till I touched it) inside the connector that is about 10" from the black magnetic pick-up.
I guess that's to keep water out???

I couldn't even say with any certainty when it quit working... At the end of last year or the first ride this year???
I just noticed on my first ride a few weeks ago that my odometer was staying at 809 and I'm pretty dang sure I have more miles on it than that.

I picked up a speedo pick-up through Ebay cheap so I can try it but I haven't yet... No moving parts...Just a magnet so I have my doubts that it's the problem.

The only real monkeying I've done electrically is adding a digital temp gauge to the sled, picking up power and ground under the dash wiring but I'm pretty sure the speedo worked after I installed that at the very beginning of last season.

Is there a fuse or whatever that might cause this?
I checked the two fuses at the clutch side panel and they're both good.

The LCD on the gauge is there and working but it doesn't advance.
Any help or suggestions from a knowledgeable Doo guru is appreciated.
Thanks in advance and thanks for reading my ramblings! (put up with me... I'm old!)

Lance.

I have had the magnet pick up go bad before but you could still scroll through the display. I also had the button go bad on the gauges. All I did to fix it was take the gauge apart and apply dielectric grease to the contact and it worked.

HMMm. Yeah, I can scroll through but the trip meter stays at 0, the odometer miles stay at 809 and I forget what the hourmeter reads.
Speed never reads.

How do I test it?

I guess I should just change out the pick-up?
Are there bolts on the inside of the tunnel to hold?
