Black Hills Riding
Came to deadwood for New Years, checked out the sled scene and found lots of people riding but not getting off trails(low low snow). |

Trailshead lodge is the center of the system. You can leave your trailer in the parking lot across the highway from the store (I asked the ranger there and he said it is ok the leave stuff overnight). I've never had anyone mess with mine. Trailshead is on Highway 85 west of deadwood. There are places to stay and entertainment in Deadwood. Or you could stay in Spearfish and trailer down spearfish canyon road to a trailhead at spearfish canyon lodge. You can park your trailer at spearfish canyon lodge if you are staying there. There is a public use parking near the lodge, but it is not very big and they don't want you to leave anything there overnight. The black hills are a good place to go with kids & the wife, the trails are usually in good shape if there is decent snow. If you are looking for deep powder, you will be disappointed but most women (in my opinion) are happy to ride trails and enjoy a night out.

Thanks.
Which has better scenery, trailshead area or spearfish canyon? Most likely going in February, hopefully more snow then. |

I don't know if there is much difference, You will be seeing both of them anyway. I think the black fox canyon area is the most scenic. When you get a trail map you can find it then. It is on trail 2 se of trails head, there will be a warming shelter there. Also, if the snow is real good, you can ride from the town of deadwood.
