Default 09 check engine

Here is the deal I have a 2009 summit xp 800. Was out riding today and the check engin light is coming on.

As soon as you hit 6000 rpms the light comes on but doesn't seem to affect the performance of the motor. no matter what RPM you are at as soon as you let off the throttle it turns off. When you get back on it it turns back on after you are above 6000.. I have no idea

Has anyone seen this before or have any ideas what is going on.

Thank you
GL

Check the RAVE solenoids for a break on the wires. They are used over 6000 rpm's or the airbox air flow sensor. My money is on the RAVE Solenoid. Take a flashlight an look at the wires from the solenoids back to the plug-ins.

Did you notice any beeping GL?
Could be a knock sensor, Bad gas...
But I like MDR's answer better.

Other than the light and the beep, do you notice a loss of power? Is the power flat? if a loss of power, knock sensor. Lack of power or flat, rave solenoid. The knock sensor will retard the timing (limp mode), the rave solenoid will cause the sled to feel flat as the exhaust is not opening fully.

I didn't notice any lack of power but yet I have only put about 100 miles on it so not sure I would really notice anything.\

To get codes: To access fault codes,Press and hold the M button, quickly push your hi-low beam switch several times, this will put you in to Code mode. While in P Code mode, use the M or S to scroll thru codes.press and hold M to exit this mode.

My guess would be the RAVE valves too based on the RPM and the check engine light clearing after letting off, but would think you would notice a power loss at WOT if it was..

Question though, would the computer hold the code if it's clearing it by itself when he lets off the throttle, or would it clear the code bank when the light goes out?

That is my thought too....Not sure if the computer is storing a log of the codes or not

Adrenaline Revolution: A little more here Kyle... There are 2 15 amp fuses above the battery. The one that is blown was updated to a 20 in 09. Controls the rave solenoid, tail light and a few other things.

Don't think it could be this. The break light is still working.

Think small and crawl into the cowl area. Follow the RAVE solenoid back and look at the wires very closely.
