From this afternoons news;

Flooding in Sicamous, June 2012

The mayor of Sicamous fears the worst may be yet to come.

The tiny North Okanagan community is being hit hard by rising flood waters that have forced several hundred people from their homes in surrounding areas.

A state of Emergency has been declared in the 2 Mile area just south of Sicamous.

Highway 97 is also closed in both directions at the 2 Mile Bridge due to the flooding.

Mayor Darrell Trouton was apparently informed by snowmobilers that rain has been falling 24/7 in the higher elevations.

Creeks have branched out, taking new paths, and Trouton has indicated he's not sure where the water will eventually come down.

Water levels have continued to rise Monday morning and rain has again started to fall as local marinas and residents experience major flooding.

A meeting will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Sicamous Recreation Centre for residents who have been evacuated.

A second meeting will take place Monday evening at 7 p.m. at the Prestige Harbourfront Resort in Salmon Arm.

Castanet reporter Kelly Hayes is in the Sicamous area.
