Default What to look for on used XP?

Going to inspect an '08 Summit 800 146 XP that is for sale tomorrow. Little over 1,000 miles, no engine work yet according to the owner. Haven't been in the market for a Ski-Doo in quite some time. Any problem areas in particular that I should be looking for?

2000 miles, and you will be dropping new pistons in it probably. Does the gas gauge still work. Handlebar heaters. Check the front bumper area really close, it's thin and stuff gets bent in there. Primary have the old plastic center adjuster, or the new metal one.

LOL Blu (Good advice).

Also, you doo know that the 08's motors are a timebomb?? I would pass on this and try and find an 09 or newer. Or an 08 with an updated motor, I just picked up a 08 800 154 with a 10 motor for $4200. Gonna be a great rock sled /Coyote chaser.

Thanks for all of the advice, guys. Will inspect all of those items. I guess I missed the memo on the motor issues. Will have to make a careful decision on this one.

I know on ours there was an update to the wiring I think how it was routed behind the exhaust by the chaincase. Handlebar warmer issues on lots of them, I think it was the wiring grounding out on the bars. Another common issue was the bolts ont he y-pipe backing out or snapping off, nordlock washers and a lot of cussing getting the old bolts off was the fix. There might have been some more issues, check the recalls for that year they had quite a few of them. Ours was a belt eater, they changed to some stout belts hoping to fix the issue, but I think it was more alignment than anything, one of the fixes was drilling out the mounts bigger to give you room to adjust it.

Inspected all of the aforementioned items that I could. Only thing I could find not functioning as it should was the RH hand warmer. Structurally it looked sound. However, looks ridden hard and put away wet. Given the potential for near-future engine trouble, I think I will pass on this one. Really appreciate all of the advice I received from you.
