So the rich guy gives the waitress $10,000 for the pen, the poor man $1.00?
Who gets to draw the line you mention?
I'm not comparing speeding to murder, just pointing out that the punishment has to be the same, no matter who commits the crime. It works both ways. Why do celebrities get away with DUI's and normal folks don't?
A large part of the problem is that there is no stigma connected to crime anymore. It used to be that a rich, powerful man would be embarrassed to get in trouble. Everyone, rich or poor, just shrugs it off now.

Interesting concept.
Gotta love the "re-distribution of wealth" huh Ruffy? Take his money and give it to good hands, the government...

Or a poor person overdrafting their account by a couple hundred dollars vs the Democratic party spending trillions we don't have?

No doubt that is the scare tactics against it. IT's SOCIALISM!! ha ha. Do you agree with the point though? Do the rich not feel the impact of breaking the law as much as the rest of us poor saps do?

If a 20 year old and a 70 year old both commit murder, should the 20 year old get more time since he has more left?

Dang, now that is an interesting point. Though my smart arse response would be to consider the quality of the time being taken away. The 20 year old is missing a lot of good times.

Is drinking and chasing girls higher quality time than watching grandchildren grow, or caring for a spouse of 50 years?

Should a self made millionaire pay a higher fine than someone collecting welfare?

It doesn't seem like it because you have no experience being the rich guy ruffy. 90 days in jail if you run a business successful enough to buy a car capable of 185+ mph may end up costing much more than you could possibly fine them.

I also think it is wrong for the government to profit off of its citizens. It may appear that what they are attempting is to punish. It is in reality a slick way to produce revenue. The punsihment for serious crimes should be, and is jail. the punishment for petty crimes should be small fines, a slap on the wrist and warning of what is to come should you stray further afoul with the law.
