Other things you should check and/or know about- the stock front end on those trucks are notorious for eating ball joints, especially if you're running bigger than stock size tires. Real easy to tell if the front end is worn out, the tires tip in toward the top so if you're looking at the front of the truck, it looks like this / \ Check in the valley of the motor for any fluids... there shouldn't be any but you'll probably find some fuel at least. The fuel pump and fuel filter are both mounted on the engine and common sources of fuel leaks. The fuel bowl is an easy fix (pull it and put new O-rings in it) but the fuel pump is under the turbo and can be a real PITA to change and to keep it from leaking. If the pump is bad there is a weep hole on the bottom that will drizzle fuel into the valley. Pull the intake off and check the turbo for signs of dusting. The edges of the compressor wheel blades should be smooth and straight, and relatively sharp. Any dings, nicks, gouges, or bent fins means it has swallowed something through the intake. And on that note... the OEM air box is notorious for leaking and should be tossed PDQ. Take the oil fill cap off and set it upside down over the hole it screws into. If it rattles off from engine vibration that's good, if it gets blown up into the air thats bad and means you're probably looking at a rebuild soon. Check for signs of oil in the coolant bottle, bad injector O-rings can let oil get into the coolant. There's probably more I'm forgetting but that's a pretty good start of things to check.
