How many times have you had to interact with a govt employee who just didn't seem to give a crap and less than helpful? I have no sympathy for those who come to work and collect a tax payer paycheck and sit around on their azz and don't do chit. Those who do work and get frustrated at those who don't and should have been walked out the door long ago have less to worry about than the freeloading scum that do the bare minimum or less because it's hard if not impossible to fire them. That way those people who really want to work can find a job in the govt sector.

I work in the federal system and can tell you straight up there are a LOT of poeple that could be fired and no one would notice. I had to fight like crazy to get rid of the 2 guys they had "assisting" me. I got more work done when they weren't around because I didn't have to clean up their messes. Since they left I get a LOT more stuff done. Also, the federal blue collar workforce does a yearly study. The actually go out to private sector companies and compair local federal wages to that of their counter parts in the private sector. in reality I make about 20% less than i would in the private sector, but I get good benefits so I figure that makes up for it. I think they should do the exact same thing for state employees. I know the local road crew drivers in Boulder make about twice what a private sector employee doing the exact same thing makes.

I don't think public sector people should make more than their private sector counterparts and see huge pay increases during these times. Public sector traditionally got paid less but they had better benefits and better job security. Now they are making more than their counterparts on average and they have better job security and they have better benefits than the people who pay their salary. I think they need to elbow up to the table and take a bite out of the same chit sandwich the rest of us have to.
Also, the federal system is broken but it is broken in areas they don't talk about.
I am sure everyone has heard the report that says the average federal employee makes (I think it was something like) 140,000 a year with pay and benefits. What they don't tell you is that the federal government is SO TOP HEAVY on adminstrators it's not even funny. A successful company is built around a pyramid. One boss oversees 7-10 workers type of thing. In the federal government (and it's worse at the state level) it is more like 1 boss overseeing 2-3 workers. Instead of a pyramid it is more like an upside down pyramid.

That drives up the cost of everything.
They don't need to control wages as much as they need to get rid of about 40% of the paper pushers. Of course they aren't going to do that in an election year because that would be around 200,000 people laid off and no politician is going to do that.

I can't believe this.

I've been hearing on the news, that Scott Walker won cause he outspent his opponent 7 - 1. But, it turns out, that is a complete lie.

It turns out it's more like 30 Million versus 25 Million. The news media completely ignored the 21 Million spent by the unions. WTF.

yeah lets get rid of the unions so the working man gets screwed everytime and the higher ups just get bigger and bigger bonuses and larger salaries. so they can get rid of joe timeclock at a moments notice to keep the admins and suits their yearly wage. who else is there to stand up for the hourly guy? your foreman/manager. i'm sure he's gonna stick his neck out to make sure the poor hourly smuck gets at least a few benefits and is paid a liveable wage don't hear peeps whining all the time about legislative types spending millions to take thier familys and friends on trips/vacations i wonder how many hourly peeps could get paid for a whole year for just one of their little adventures i guess they deserve it. how about all the perks they get, medical and pers for serving a few year term. yea those working class peeps are most defiantley sucking us dry. lets take away every decent paying job so everyone can, except for the higher ups, make minimum wage. unions benefit the working class, how else are they to negotiate with multi million dollar corperations??? if your a suit i guess unions really aren't your friend but then again i guess they are their only real friend...

I think your talking about private sector workers. Were talking about public sector workers.

Government workers make better than hourly smucks. You ever seen their benefits packages, in some places? State Government workers make more money than engineers in California.

And, it's not the hourly smuck making minimum wage we are hating on. It's the auto workers that retire at 55 making so much, the companies can't continue. It's the workers that shut down a plant ever time it starts to make money. It's the union guy that walks up to you and tells you union rules don't allow you to plug in your oscilloscope into the wall outlet, you need a union electrician. It's the union guys that take their union dues and funnel them to democrats. It's the union bosses that make as much as some of the upper executives your talking about, but somehow that's alright. It's the union guy that threatens to beat you up if you improve his assembly line efficiency. It's some guy that gets a slot in the Local 134 Pipe Fitters, because his daddy carried a card and knows the right people, when better qualified people can't get placed at the hall. It's the union guy that shows up at 7AM, makes some excuse and goes on break until 10, where he then works for a hour, then goes to lunch at 11, and gets back at 12:35 and goes to the bathroom, ................ It's the guy that barely passed high school, but pulled a card, making more money than guys that are twice as good as him. Oh, then there's the union guys that always seem to go on unemployment like clock work. Then there's the mafia connections, you don't hire union, your glass won't show up, and if you don't buy glass from Fred over their, the union guys will strike.

The little guy deserves to be treated fairly, and have a safe work environment. But, he doesn't deserve a 100K job, just because. You should see the look on the engineers face from Singapore, when he realizes the hourly assembly line workers in the US make more than he does. You should see the disbelief when you talk to a assembly line worker in China, when he finds out how much a hourly worker in the US makes. Either the US is in the global economy, or we go isolationist.

And, talking about CEOs, that's another big mess. The best people don't get the CEO jobs, no matter what they try to convince you of. And, almost no CEO is worth the money they pay them. CEOs get the jobs because they know someone. They get the big salaries, because CEOs work on each others board of directors, and approve each others raises. Try comparing union working smucks against non-union working smucks. Hell, compare some guy with no education and not really good at his job but union, against some guy with 8 years of college and good at what he does. You'll probably find that most people are over paid.
